Gypsies set up camp in Hillfield Park

GYPSIES have yet again returned to the borough – this time unwantedly descending on Hillfield Park.

A dozen or so caravans arrived at the park on Monday morning, setting up camp in the car park and leaving park users unable to park their cars and use the park.

One angry resident told The Observer: “Who do they think they are just turning up and taking over our park?

“Nobody wants to use the park with them there as we don’t feel safe.

“And no doubt they will leave it in a mess – or worse – when they leave just like the gypsies did in Chadwick End last year, causing thousands of pounds of vandalism.”

A Solihull spokesperson said the council was aware of the encampment and was working to resolve the situation ‘as quickly as is possible’.

They added: “Officers have been out on site this morning to assess the situation and the Police are aware of their presence. The Council and the Police will continue to monitor the site regularly.”
