THE ROYAL National Lifeboat Institution has awarded the prestigious Gold Badge to Mr Clive Buckley – Chairman of the Solihull Lifeboat Fundraising Branch.

At an awards ceremony, held in the Great Hall at Birmingham University, Vicky Wright – vice-chair of the RNLI – presented Mr Buckley with the Gold badge in recognition of the dedicated support he has given the lifeboat service over many years.

The Solihull Lifeboat Appeal was launched in 1986 – Mr Buckley has been chairman eversince.

Since then, £41,310 has been raised and was used to purchase a new Atlantic 21 class inshore lifeboat named ‘The Borough of Solihull’ and served at Abersoch, in North Wales, from 1990 until 2002.

For the past 13 years, the ‘Margaret Bench of Solihull’ has been used.

David Herriott, Solihull Branch’s Press Officer, said: “The gold award is a great honour, not only to Mr Clive Buckley but also to the Branch itself.

“It is only awarded after many years of dedicated support of the lifeboat service which he and the Branch have given.

“Solihull Branch is a fund-raising branch consistently raising at least £10,000 annually and its success is due to the generous support we receive from the public at our various fund-raising events.

“Congratulations are due to Clive and a big thank you to all our supporters.”
