STAFF at Dogs Trust Kenilworth in Honiley are celebrating after being chosen as the 2015 Dorridge Sainsbury’s Local Charity of the year award.

The Rehoming Centre was chosen in recognition of the excellent care provided to rescue dogs awaiting forever homes at the home.

Dogs Trust Kenilworth Supporter Relations Officer Jane Hirons said: “All of us at Dogs Trust Kenilworth are delighted to be awarded with the Local Charity of the Year award by Sainsbury’s. All of us care so passionately about the dogs in our care so it’s wonderful to be recognised and supported by our local store.”

This year Sainsbury’s received over 13,000 local charity nominations.

The team at the Warwickshire-based Rehoming Centre were shortlisted along with two other local charities after presenting the work of their charity to staff at the Dorridge store.

And they came out on top after a public vote decided they should be awarded Local Charity of the Year status.

Sainsbury’s Dorridge will now organise fundraising activities with the trust where all money raised will go directly to abandoned, stray and unwanted dogs.

Since launching the Local Charity of the Year Award six years ago, Sainsbury’s has raised over £7 million for local charities.
