Celebrating Silver Sunday

Solihull Editorial 30th Oct, 2014 Updated: 21st Oct, 2016   0

ELDERLY villagers were presented with a green-fingered treat from a local charity to celebrate Silver Sunday.

24 residents of Balsall Common, Berkswell, Meriden and nearby villages were presented with gift-wrapped house plants to mark the national event.

The Heart of England Retirement Organisation (HERO), who organised the event, spent the day celebrating older people and their contribution to communities by meeting and chatting with the residents and delivering the small gifts.

A letter received by the charity after the event said: “Thank you so much for the cyclamen all done up with silver material and ribbon.

“Your visit gave me so much pleasure.”

Joseph Goodrem, aged 103 years, was the oldest recipient and was delighted with his plant and for the opportunity to have a chat with his HERO Trustee visitor.
