Mamma Mia! has them dancing in the aisles at the Birmingham Hippodrome

THANK YOU for the music, the audience cheered after the curtain came down on Mamma Mia!

The feel-good show is at the Birmingham Hippodrome until September 3, and if you’re looking for a good night out – you’ve just found it.

I’m not an Abba fan by any stretch, but I think I now just might be after seeing this musical.

Cheesy dancing, girl power, romance and comedy feature big in this show by Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus – there’s no surprise it has been running since 1999.

An explosive version of Money Money Money kick-starts the show, closely followed by Mamma Mia, Dancing Queen and an energetic rendition of Gimme Gimme Gimme.

Lucy May Barker plays a great Sophie, who secretly invites her three potential fathers to her wedding on the Greek island where she lives – without telling mum Donna, portrayed to perfection by Sara Poyzer.

But the real stars of the show are Tanya and Rosie, played by Jacqueline Braun and Emma Clifford – a comical duo who are lead star Donna’s childhood friends.

The pair are full of subtle (and not so subtle) euphemisms and jokes, with their renditions of Chiquitita, Does Your Mother Know and Take a Chance on me generating some of the biggest laughs of the night.

Mamma Mia! is one of the most refreshing, exciting musicals I have seen in a long time – and when an evening ends with the audience dancing in the aisles, you know it’s the end of a great evening.

If you want a fun night out – go and see this.
